APCM 23 MAY 2021
St George's after the 10am morning service, Pentecost
St John's at 5.00pm before the evening service, Pentecost
At both churches there are displayed on the notice boards two forms. One is giving notice that the APCM is going to take place and the other is "Notice of the Revision of the Church Electoral Roll". For both churches, between the 24 April and 8 May, you can join the electoral roll. If you wish to do so please download this document and return to the Parish Office. You can be on the Electoral Roll of both St George and St John the Baptist.
What is the Church Electoral Roll? Why have one?
It is our parish church’s register of electors, a list of those qualified to attend and to vote at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting where the elections take place for:
a) the parochial church council;
b) the parish’s representatives on the deanery synod.
Any person entitled to attend the Annual Parochial Church Meeting may raise any question of parochial or general church interest. It also means that you or your children or even grandchildren can get married at either church!
It is the only official register of membership within the Church of England. When the national press talk about numbers attending church services, this is based on Electoral Roll figures. As such, it is a great encouragement to our Bishop and the national church for the Electoral Roll to be as representative as possible of the actual members of our church community.
Do I have to join?
You can of course be a full and active member of either St George’s or St John’s without joining the Roll. Being on the Electoral Roll does not entail signing up to any additional commitments. However, it does help the Church show its vibrancy, both locally and nationally. If you’re a regular at either church, you should be on the Electoral Roll!
