THE AUBREY SINGERS
We are a newly constituted choir which rehearses and performs in
Notting Hill. We aim to perform a wide and challenging range of
classical and modern classical pieces ranging from Tallis and
Monteverdi to contemporary composers such as Lauridsen, Tavener
and Gjeilo.
We are thrilled to be able to introduce Jamie Powe, our new Musical
Director, with whom we have worked since March 2022. In the
Autumn term, we look forward to rehearsing the Requiem by
Duruflé, which we will perform at St John The Baptist Church,
Holland Road, in November 2022. – so watch this space!
JAMIE POWE
Jamie currently holds a scholarship from the Royal Academy of
Music, where he is studying for an MA degree in choral conducting
under Patrick Russill. Jamie was also one of the 2018/19 Young
Conducting Scholars with Sing for Pleasure and has worked with
Genesis Sixteen as conducting scholar. He was Director of the Chapel
Choir of Regent's Park College, Oxford 2019-2021, and he is
currently Musical Director of Laurelin Voices and The Arcadian
Singers and is a guest conductor for the Fourth Choir. He will start as
Director of Putney Choral Society in September 2022
The Aubrey Singers has been formed to sing a wide-ranging and
interesting choral repertoire to as high a standard as possible and
welcomes new members.
We are an unauditioned choir and the ability to read music is not
required. We believe that being a member of a choir is more than just
the singing and that the camaraderie and the making of new friends
and connections are all part of the experience. We want singing to be
fun. And what would choir life be like without the tea-break?
We generally rehearse on Sunday evenings at St. George’s Church,
Campden Hill, London W8.
